BOOKING CONDITIONS

The terms and conditions set out below apply to all accommodation, activities and services booked through SaronicNet.  In your interests, we ask you to read them carefully.

SaronicNet is the trading name of Kelsey Jane R Edwards, tax number 111655770 registered with the Poros Tax Office.

We are committed to a policy of fair-trading and we try to ensure that you will be satisfied with the accommodation, activities and services you book through us.

We are an independent booking agent.  We are paid commission by the hotels, etc. on their official room prices every time we place a booking with them. You are never charged more than you would be if you booked directly. In some cases the official rates that we obtain for you are less than the published rates of the accommodation. Please see Reduced Rates below.

Reduced Rates.  SaronicNet undertake to obtain the cheapest rates possible for our customers. The prices shown on the website are the maximum prices charged by the hotels, pensions, etc to SaronicNet. Because we make frequent bookings we are offered substantial discounts, which we pass on to our customers. Therefore the prices listed are the official discounted prices available to customers booking through SaronicNet. If stated on the website pages for specific accommodation outlets, it is sometimes possible to obtain further discounts for longer stays and/or out of season periods. These discounts are applied at the time of booking and subject to availability.

Payment of Deposits.  When you have decided what accommodation, activities and services you require and we have confirmed that they are available for the times you want, SaronicNet will require payments as follows.

25% of total anticipated accommodation cost, to be paid immediately but less than one year in advance.

Further 25% - 3 months in advance of anticipated arrival date.

Final 50% - 1 month in advance of anticipated arrival date. You should also note that any additional financial requirements stipulated by the accommodation you have booked should also be paid or shown evidence of, with final payment. For example, damage deposit cheques should be lodge as per instructions, copies of insurance policy supplied, supplements for cleaning paid, or deposits against phone bills paid and the like.

SaronicNet reserves the right to change the payment schedule for any booking.

Why do SaronicNet ask for deposits and payment  so far in advance? Hydra is unlike most tourist areas in the world, let alone Greece. Very little in the Greek banks on the island is processed electronically. True there are computers and ATM's but they are subject to the electricity supply and telephone systems being available. The island frequently suffers electricity failures which have been known to close the banks. Everything is still done on a manual basis, so it takes a lot longer to clear than it would elsewhere. Cheques for example can take up to 2 months to clear before funds are available.

Secondly there are peak times on the island when accommodation is at a premium. There are only 658 beds available in total. When there are a number of large functions happening at the same time, it is much easier to get first choice of availability if SaronicNet can secure the booking with full payment in advance. Also by making full payment in advance the risk of the accommodation double booking your choice of room/house is completely eradicated. It has been known for people to have rooms reserved with a minimal deposit, only to find that upon arrival their room had been given to someone else who arrived earlier or have been 'bumped' in favour of a last minute but longer booking.

Do customers have to book in advance? Of course not. Many of our customers contact us a week before they want to arrive and in most cases we can help them. However the accommodation that we can suggest to them is limited by availability. At peak times it is frequently impossible to locate rooms. Which is why we advise against late booking on Hydra especially if you are coming to the island to attend a special event such as a wedding, conference or festival such as Miaoulis or Easter.

We understand that some people don't wish to pay for their accommodation in advance or in total. If this is the case our customers are at liberty to stop their booking with us and if they want to, to return to us nearer their traveling time to confirm their booking. There will be the chance of the exact accommodation wanted, not being available but so long as the customer is flexible and there is availability, we are happy to help.

Your right of cancellation is not affected by our advance payment policy. Refunds will be paid in line with the cancellation charges and cancellation administration fee as explained below.

How can you pay? We can accept credit card (Visa or MasterCard), bank transfer, SWIFT transfer, bankers drafts, Euro cheques, personal cheques (in most currencies) or Western Union money transfers. Please see [Payment Method] for more details.

If you change your dates after you have paid your deposit. If you want to change the dates of your booking after you have paid your deposits or full balance you may. However changes of dates will be subject to availability and if dates are unavailable, subject to cancellation charges. Deposits and/or full payment may not be transferred to an alternative accommodation.

If you wish to make any special requests. We will endeavor to meet all reasonable special requests, made at the time of booking. All special requests are subject to availability, cannot be guaranteed and do not form part of your contract with either SaronicNet or the owner of the accommodation you book or the provider of the service you book.

If you cancel your holiday. You or any members of your party may cancel your booking or part of it once it has been confirmed at any time, but payment in full or part for accommodation, activities or services are subject to cancellation charges.

Some private house owners specify their own cancellation policy and any changes to the policies laid out in this document will be shown on the website pages of the specific property in question. It is the responsibility of the person(s) renting private properties to read and agree to be bound by any additional policies as advertised on the website where they differ from the policies shown herein.

Cancellation charges
21 days prior to arrival -  charged at 30% of total stay.
No Show (Non Arrival) - 100% of total stay.
Late cancellation, less than 48 hours notice prior to arrival is 50% of total stay unless for 1 or 2 nights reservation in which case you will pay 100% of the stay.

Cancellation Administration Fee

If you have a complaint. In the unlikely event of there being something not to your liking with the accommodation, activities or services booked via SaronicNet, you must report it to the relevant supplier of the services in question, thereby giving them the opportunity to remedy the problem.  If the proprietor or supplier in question does not remedy your complaint, you are at liberty to contact SaronicNet and we will do our best to help you. However, SaronicNet do not accept any liability or responsibility in this regard.

For British Citizens, a full 10 year passport is required for entry to Greece.  It is your responsibility to have a valid passport and appropriate visa for your holiday.   It is also your responsibility to check whether any vaccinations or immunizations are required.  For British Citizens traveling with pets, it is your responsibility to obtain the appropriate papers from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF).

Pricing Policy SaronicNet reserves the right to occasionally vary prices advertised on our website when notified by accommodation owners and/or service providers.

If the owner or service provider cancels your accommodation, activity or service and your deposit has been paid.  Your holiday arrangements will not be cancelled except if events beyond the control of SaronicNet, the owner or service provider occur (see paragraph below) or damage by fire or flooding, etc. renders the booked accommodation uninhabitable or you have not paid the full deposit and booking fee in the time requested.

If deposits are not paid by the time specified the booking will be deemed cancelled by the owner or service provider and no compensation will be paid.

In the event of the accommodation being rendered uninhabitable, it is the accommodation owner/provider’s responsibility to offer an alternative.  If no acceptable alternative is found a full refund of deposit and balance paid will be made in full. Compensation will not be paid.

Circumstances beyond the control of SaronicNet or accommodation, activity or service provider. If war or terrorist activities, industrial action threatened or actual, civil unrest, closure of ports or airports, or any other event or circumstances outside the control of SaronicNet, accommodation, activity or service provider, either in delays or extends the holiday or causes or results in a change in the holiday itself, SaronicNet, the accommodation, activity or service provider will not be liable to you nor will any compensation be payable. In the event of delay or cancellation of international flights, domestic flights, ferries or other transport for any reason beyond our control, i.e. Force majeure, we do not accept liability for any additional cost which you may incur a result, nor will any compensation be payable. In most cases these additional cost can be reclaimed on insurance.
